By TERENCE MISELO
MUSICIAN and one of the pioneers of current Zambian music Keith Mutale has died.
Mutale, who died on Thursday in Lusaka after an illness is easily remembered for his huge contribution to Zambian music under the Muvi Posse Band created by Muvi TV in the 90s.
Mutale who is musically called Mukulumpe, was instrumental in setting the agenda for modern Zambian music. He was amongst the earliest Zambian rappers inspired by the likes of Tupac and B.I.G.
At the time Zambian music was entering the computer age, Keith alongside his peers James Chamanyazi, Che Mutale Saga, Maiko Zulu and others were already on top of the game. He became famous for his hit single, “I Gat U” featuring Betty Bulongo aka Betty Bulo.
He also did tracks like Pyange Pyange that made him popular with his hip hop raga style. Others will remember him from the earliest Zambian commercials by Trishu.
At the time of his death, Keith had taken a long break from music and set up a small medical unit under Lusaka Pharmacy.
And people from different walks of life have received his death with grief, sharing their messages of condolences on various social media platforms.
