Work with Govt, UPND urged

By ANDREW MUKOMA
THE Patriotic Front has appealed the opposition Members of Parliament (MP) in Southern Province to begin to work with Government to steer development.
PF provincial information and publicity secretary, Trymore Mweenda, said for once UPND MPs should work with Government in steering development in the area.
He was speaking on Zambezi FM’s Boiling Point on Thursday in Livingstone.
Mr Mweenda said Zambia was faced with unprecedented levels of unemployment and that to create opportunities, both the ruling party and the opposition must work together. He said the government had always been willing to work with UPND MPs but that the lawmakers had constantly been refusing.
Mr Mweenda said time has come for UPND MPs to begin to loosen up and prioritise the people who voted for them instead of their political party.
“In order for development to reach our communities, UPND MPs in Southern Province need to work with the PF Government especially the Livingstone Member of Parliament,” he said.
Meanwhile, Livingstone Chambers of Commerce (LCC) president Namakau Siyanga has urged young entrepreneurs to take advantage of Covid-19 and turn it into an opportunity.
Featuring on the same programme as Mr Mweenda, Ms Siyanga said Covid-19 would ‘dislocate’ most economies in Africa.
Ms Siyanga said that time had come for the young entrepreneurs to start looking at how they could use local resources in an event Zambia’s neighbouring countries imposed a lockdown.
“I want to urge the young entrepreneurs in our country to use this time and identify themselves as people who can use local resources and sustain our nation,” she said
