Man drowns in Mkushi dam

THE body of a 43-year old man who went missing a week ago, has been found floating in a dam at Klip drift farm in Mkushi.

Munshibemba ward councillor John Chilala confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation in an interview and named the man as Given Musonda of Kangalati area.

Councillor Chilala who is also Mkushi District Council vice chairman said the man went missing last Saturday and no family member knew his whereabouts.

Mr. Chilala said after conducting a search, his body was found floating in a dam at Klip drift farm where he is believed to have drowned.

“The body was found floating in a dam where the missing man is believed to have drowned and no one knows what happened,” Councillor Chilala said.

He said the body has since been buried.

Meanwhile, over 300 small scale farmers in Kamimbya ward in Luano have been left out on e-voucher system.

Kamimbya ward councillor Isaac Tembo said in an interview that the affected farmers were entered in the system but had no pin numbers.

Hence, they are not eligible to benefit from the subsidised inputs under Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

Mr. Tembo said the development has induced panic among farmers who are in a dilemma. He said the affected farmers are from, Kabololwe, Kamimbya, Sonkolo and , Nkwale areas.

“ In this regard, I am appealing to government through the District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO) Roy Kalipenta to expedite the process of allocating them pin numbers so that they can benefit from the government programme.” Mr. Tembo said.

Mr. Tembo further appealed to the DACOs office to ensure that the next farming season the e-voucher system was perfected to avert unnecessary delays.
