NABBED AGRIC OFFICER TAKEN TO COURT

AN agriculture camp officer who was allegedly caught selling 160 stolen bags of fertiliser under the Farmer Input Support Programme in Chipangali has appeared before the magistrate court in Chipata.

Last week, Chief Chanje of the Chewa people handed over Dumisani Tembo to Mgubudu Police Post in Chipangali after he was allegedly caught with 160 by 50 kilogramme stolen bags of fertiliser.

In an interview, Chief Chanje who confirmed that the accused had appeared in court said he was happy that justice would prevail.

“I am happy that Dumisani Tembo who I personally handed over to the police at Mugubudu was charged with theft by public servant and taken to court. He appeared in court and that was good because what we want is justice to prevail,” Chanje has said.

Eastern Province acting Police Commanding Officer, Davis Simwanza has also confirmed that Tembo, appeared in court on Friday after being charged with theft by public servant.

“Yes, I can confirm that the suspect who was arrested and charged with theft by public servant appeared in court on Friday,” Mr Simwanza said.

He said some recovered bags of fertiliser which were found at the house of a MsRosemary Banda aged 70 at Ulemu village in Chieftainess Mkanda’s area had been handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture.
