Motion to censure Lusambo over `disgruntled’ remarks fails

By NOEL IYOMBWA
A motion to admonish Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo failed yesterday after majority MPs voted against it.

The motion was raised by Kapiri Mposhi Member of Parliament Stanley Kakubo who wanted the house to censure Mr. Lusambo for describing the youths who were expressing their freedom of expression as disgruntled and that their expression of opinions was an act of stupidity and stinking nonsense when he held a press briefing on June 3, 2020.
The motion was seconded by Zambezi West MP Prisca Kucheka.
However, Malambo Member of Parliament Makebi Zulu said there was no apology in the statement made by Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo describing some youths who were condemning government as disgruntled.
Mr Zulu instead said that the person who should be censured is a named political leader who stood on the platform and insulted a certain region.
Mr. Zulu also told the house what should be termed as unpalatable language are words that were used by a named leader who insulted a certain region, adding that what the minister said cannot be classified as unpalatable.
And Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo wondered why the Kapiri Mposhi MP raised the motion when the matter was settled with different elders.
He accused Mr. Kakubo of trying to settle scores in the house because youths in his constituency were troubling him (Lusambo) because their MP (Mr. Kakubo) had abandoned them.
