Central Province probes 6 suspected Covid-19 cases

By KETRA KALUNGA
SIX cases of Covid-19 are being investigated in Central Province, three from Kabwe and three from Chisamba, says provincial minister, Sydney Mushanga.
Mr Mushanga said the speciments from all the six Covid-19 suspects were collected on Tuesday and taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka for laboratory analysis.
Mr Mushanga said the three cases in Kabwe were from Chowa Township. He was speaking yesterday when he received a donation of assorted materials from a consortium of business houses in the province.
And Mr Mushanga, who is Bwacha Member of Parliament said so far there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the province.
Mushanga said the screening process which was part of the surveillance system had continued in the province.
“We have six suspected cases, three from Chowa and three from Chisamba, the specimens were collected and sent to UTH we only hope they come out negative,” said Mr Mushanga.
He has appealed to people in the province to continue observing the guidelines from the Ministry of Health to avoid new cases.
The minister said it was the government’s intention that the spread of the virus was avoided and this could only be achieved if people followed all the preventive measures that had been put in place.
Mr Mushanga said strict compliance was the best option for people to prevent them from becoming infected because currently there is no known cure for Covid-19.
“The best we can do is follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Health especially compliance on hygiene,” said Mr Mushanga.
Kabwe Mother and Newborn Hospital has been identified as the isolation centre of Covid-19 suspects.
