THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) should remove people illegally repairing vehicles from parking areas along Freedom Way in the Central Business District of Lusaka because they have taken up most of the parking spaces, angry Lusaka residents have said.

A Kanyama resident Alex Mumbi said that some people have been repairing vehicles from parking spaces along this busy avenue in the heart of Lusaka.

Mr Mumbi, who is a mechanic, said that the north end of Lusaka’s Freedom Way was looking filthy because of the grease and oils from vehicles.

He explained that they were repairing vehicles from the area because it was surrounded by auto shops and that they trapped clients from there.

Mr Mumbi said that the same people fond of repairing vehicles in town were to blame for the litter and blocked drainages around town.

“Some people have now started repairing vehicles from the CBD, right along Freedom Way and the place is in a mess. They just throw things anyhow without consideration. LCC should remove these people from there,” he said.

Another resident only identified as Teddy said that they had lost their clients to the same people because they repaired vehicles cheaply.

He said that it was wrong for the local authority to let those people operate from the CBD because they were making the city dirty.

Teddy advised LCC to find another place for them outside town where they could be operating from and stop  polluting the city.

“We have even lost our clients now, they are now going to those people because they are very cheap. LCC should find another place for them not in the middle of town,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from the local authority proved futile as they could not be reached by press time.
