SPENDING money is not always the key to good results on the pitch in the world of football. Premier League survival is beyond paper notes as it needs proper strategic planning for a team to become a force.
And Buildcon is one team that seemingly believed that their financial muscle is everything when they won promotion to the Zambian Super Division in 2017.
But now the once upon “big” spenders are in the bottom four having collect 25 points from the possible 69 after 23 games played.
The appointment of former Power Dynamos coach Kelvin Kaindu this week sparked a glimmer of hope for many “Team Kopala” fans who are looking forward to seeing their side surviving from the sharp jaws of relegation.
But is the appointment of Kaindu the end of woes at Buildcon? Certainly not!
Buildcon’s problems are beyond the appointment of a coach, since 2017 they have been changing coaches like “shirts.” It’s been every season with a different coach.
Already this season, they have had three at the helm of the team with no results which has seen them dropping deep into the relegation zone. If Team Kopala are to do well under Kaindu, they should maintain him for a longer period so that he can have adequate time to build a formidable side that will be able to return to continental competition and jostle for honours.
Buildcon have been known for changing their squads every season which has had a toil on their progression. It’s high time they started maintaining squads and reinforcing them when necessary.
When the Ndola outfit qualified to the CAF Confederation Cup in 2019 they got rid of key players which negatively affected their performance in the continental competition.
Therefore, if Buildcon are to perform well especially in the coming season, they should strive to keep the technical bench as well as the squad, only adding players that can help them in their quest for glory.
Kaindu’s task for the remainder of this season is to make sure Buildcon survive relegation. He must bring in team spirit and belief if they are to play Super Division football next season.
Should they survive, Kaindu will have to instill his football philosophy into the players and set a roadmap that can make Buildcon a force to reckon with.
