MECHANIC PLEADS FOR TIME TO FIND LAWYER IN THEFT CASE

By RABECCA BANDA
A LUSAKA-BASED mechanic who allegedly stole car parts worth K50, 000 has asked the court for a chance to engage a lawyer to represent him.
Cliff Simbule, 50, of Chilenje Township is alleged to have stolen car parts from Chrisantius Changwereza’s car between July 16, 2019 and November 13, 2019.
Simbule is accused of stealing one motor vehicle Maffira, a computer box, key set, radiator, number plate, saddle, inside black grill, burner heat cooler and other parts all worth K50, 000.
However, the court could not continue with trial because Simbule asked for an adjournment as his lawyer was not present.
He said he wants a lawyer to represent him and unfortunately, he wasn’t present at court because he had other engagements.
Magistrate Malupenga said Simbule’s lawyer should have communicated to the court that he had other engagements.
She said if Simbule’s lawyer is not present at the next sitting on April 28, the court would proceed with trial.
The matter comes up on April 28 for commencement of trial.
