‘COVID-19 fight is non-political’

BY ANDREW MUKOMA
COMBATING Covid-19 is a serious emergency issue which requires the efforts of all citizens, the UPND has said.
UPND Southern province deputy spokesperson, Neto Halwabala, called for collective responsibility from all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.
Mr Halwabala said it was shocking to learn about some negative sentiments attributed to PF Media Director Sunday Chanda over UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s donation of sanitisers and other items.
He said this in a statement issued to the Daily Nation in Livingstone.
Mr Halwabala said if what was reported in the media about Mr Chanda’s utterances was true, then it was unfortunate.
“The world is calling for a united force to fight the pandemic (Covid-19), but here is a mischievous person (Sunday Chanda) politicking the fight against the deadliest disease.
This should not be the case because our leader as a Zambian citizen has the right to make a donation to the government towards this fight,” he said.
Mr Halwabala said that now was the time that Zambians needed to remain united as one people regardless of their political affiliation.
“That is why as UPND we have been advising the PF government on the fight against COVID-19 and suggested interventions on the short and medium economic measures.
We therefore urge PF again to show leadership during this extraordinary period which is hurting most,” he said.
