Poor sports facilities worry administrator

By MICHAEL MIYOBA
A SPORTS administrator on the Copperbelt has bemoaned the poor state of sports infrastructure in the country.
Mufulira Central Sport Organisation general secretary Alick Tembo said he is disappointed that people have continued to vandalise sports facilities which help youths develop their talents.
He said poor maintenance of sports infrastructures especially in mining areas such as Mufulira, Luanshya, Chingola and Kitwe has left the sports venues in a deplorable state.
Tembo said there it is important to repair and improve such sports facilities because they play a key role in the sports development of youths.
“The state of sport infrastructure in the country leaves much to be desired and the new generation of youths is facing challenges as far as sports and recreation facilities are concerned.
“The youth have minimal recreational centres where they can develop their careers because some have been sold while others have been turned into residential areas,” Tembo said.
He called on civic leaders spend some of the money from the Constituency Development Fund on improving sports facilities.
