By SILUMESI MALUMO
SOME people in Chibombo are ignorant about the outbreak of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Residents of Situmbeko and other areas yesterday expressed shock that there was an outbreak of a pandemic they had never heard about.
This came to light when Patriotic Front ( PF ) Central Province vice chairperson, Charity Kapona, donated 15 hand wash facilities and sanitisers in Situmbeko, Kabangalala, Chilo, and Kabile areas in Katuba constituency.
Ms Kapona was shocked that some people were not aware of the deadly pandemic which was sweeping across the globe.
She took time during the donation to sensitise the people on how they could prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Ms Kapona told residents that Government had put in place measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“We need to ensure that we put on face masks, wash hands regularly and observe social distancing which are some of the ways to prevent the deadly disease,” she said.
Ms Kapona said Covid-19 was deadly, and hence it was prudent to adhere to measure which had been put in place.
She also emphasised the need to ensure that all citizens adhered to the Presidential directive to close bars, night clubs, casinos and gymnasiums in order to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Ms Kapona said many lives had been lost in many parts of the world and Zambia had not been spared as two deaths had been recorded.
She said people must take responsibility in ensuring that hygiene was observed in order to safeguard lives.
