Workers await Mopani meeting

By ROGERS KALERO
MINERS at Mopani Copper Mines will only return to work after the mineworkers unions meet the management at the giant mining company which is funded by Glencore.
The mineworkers unions were set to meet Mopani Copper Mines management yesterday, but the meeting could not take off for unknown reasons.
The union leaders from the three mine workers unions , the Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ), National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW) and United Mineworkers Union of Zambia (UMUZ) are expected to meet Mopani Copper Mines management today.
MUZ general secretary George Mumba said the meeting set for yesterday could not take off, but were hoping to meet the management today.
He said the union leaders wanted matters to be resolved quickly so that miners could return to work, especially that the decision by Glencore to put the mine on care and maintenance had been rescinded
“As a union, our desire is to see that our members return to work sooner than later. It is not good to talk about rescinding decision meanwhile our members are not going for work.
“Yes, we were supposed to meet Mopani Copper Mines management today, but we have not. We hope to meet them tomorrow,” Mr Mumba said
