Luanshya Mine forks out K200,000

By MUYANI SHINJABALE
LUANSHYA Copper Mines (LCM) has donated various items worth K200,000 towards the fight against COVID-19.
LCM Chief Executive Officer, Wang Jingjun, said the coronavirus pandemic had affected the entire world socially and economically and that Luanshya Mine had not been spared.
“CLM has not been spared from the shocks of covid-19. As you are aware the copper price has dropped from over US$ 6,000.00 per tonne to around US$4,000.00 per tonne and this has negatively affected our revenue and cash flow,” he said.
Mr Wang said despite the challenges, LCM had decided to make the donation in order to help the citizens in the fight against Covid-19.
He said that the mine had made another donation of K50,000 towards the covid-19 fight through the Luanshya Municipal Council two weeks ago.
He urged Luanshya residents to adhere to the health guidelines.
And Luanshya District Commissioner (DC), Patrick Maipambe, urged more firms to partner with Government in the fight against covid-19.
Mr Maipambe thanked Luanshya Copper Mines for the donation and urged other private companies to emulate the mining firm.
He said the donation was going to cater for the district health office, Zambia Police, Zambia Correctional Service and various markets and trading places.
The items included hand sanitisers, liquid hand wash, infra-red thermometers, disinfectants and facemasks.
