THE UPND are being childish by calling for a boycott on national events and I urge the Zambian youths not to listen to politicians who are bitter but they should judge the works and character of their leaders, says Youth Aid chairperson Kachinga Chungu.

In an interview over the weekend, Mr Chungu said that national events such as the Youth Day were not political in any way and stated that some opposition leaders were merely seeking attention from the public.

The non-governmental organisation has accused the UPND of propagating division in the country, saying that such manoeuvres were aimed at advancing their political agenda.

Mr Chungu urged the youths in the country not to listen to what he termed ‘bitter politicians’ but that they should assess and judge their works as well as character.

“The UPND are being childish as Youth Day celebration is not political in any way and the opposition leaders are merely seeking attention from the public.

“I urge the Zambian youth not to listen to politicians who are bitter but they should assess and judge the works and characters of their political or aspiring leaders,” Mr Chungu said.

He said that the UPND were fighting hard to be relevant by creating unnecessary tension in the country.

Mr Chungu said that as much as Zambia was a democratic nation, the opposition UPND should not mislead the youths not to participate in national events.

He said that the UPND should not instil hatred among the youth and that it should be ashamed for politicising any national event.
