THE invocation of Article (31) has put to shame doomsayers because they would have indicated that President Edgar Lungu was a dictator if he had declared a state of emergency, 3rd Liberation Movement president, Enoch Roosevelt Tonga has said.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday, Mr. Tonga said it was commendable for President Lungu to declare situation for a state of emergency and not a state of emergency as it will help protect the lives and property of people in Zambia. Mr Tonga said the people he rates as the ‘cartel ‘preaching hatred about Zambia to the international community will not succeed as the country was still a peaceful and united nation.

“The invocation of Article (31) has put to shame doomsayers because they would have indicated that President Lungu was a dictator if he had declared a state of emergency,” he said. He said the doomsayers must stop instilling fear in the lives of many innocent Zambians by telling them that the country was under a state of emergency because peace was still reigning.

He said Members of Parliament should support the invocation of Article (31) because people’s lives and properties will be protected.

Mr Tonga also urged the international community to be aware that Zambia was still intact, peaceful, and united.

“I wish to urge the international community that Zambia is intact, peaceful, and united, “he said.

He said there were some false online media that were feeding the international community that Zambia was under tension of which it was not. Mr Tonga called on government to censor all media houses whether online, print or broadcast on the reports they were feeding the citizens of Zambia.

Some media institutions also play a role in misleading the people of Zambia and, must be followed, he said.

He further said police must put up their works to bring perpetrators to book.

“If need be, they (police) must search suspects homes, and also follow some political party leaders just make sure that justice prevails,” he said

He urged citizens in the country to remain calm, as their lives were under protection by government.
