We are not poaching MPs – Mweetwa

By NATION REPORTER

WE are not enticing, coercing or poaching any of the opposition Members of Parliament in a bid for them to ditch their political parties, United Party for National Development (UPND) Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said.

Mr Mweetwa said the UPND was working with all the MPs whether from PF or independent but was not enticing them to ditch their parties.

He said there was a very big difference between working together and enticing and people needed to differentiate that fact.

“Yes, I can confirm that we are working closely with all the MPs mostly when dealing with disbursement of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) but as a party we are not coercing or enticing anyone to ditch their party,” he said.

Mr Mweetwa was reacting to allegations that Kanchibiya MP Sunday Chanda was a UPND surrogate despite him being a PF member.

And Mr Mweetwa when quizzed about UPND deputy national youth chairperson Trevor Mwiinde eyeing the Choma Central seat, said he had the right to eye the seat because he was a long serving member who was eligible.

He said he welcomed the move and that his focus right now as a sitting MP was to ensure that he delivered the required development in the area.

“I welcome the move by Mr Mwiinde with whom we have been together in the trenches. If he feels he is eligible then he should go for it but for me right now I’m not a candidate since I’m the serving MP,” Mr Mweetwa said. Mr Mweetwa however said there was nothing special about Mr Mwiinde’s move to eye the seat as he had done so in the past.
