CAGE CRIMINALS IN THE MINE SECTOR – MUSOMA

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

Criminals in the mining sector that have been siphoning money from the London stock exchange using Zambia should be identified and  prosecuted for stealing from the country, Zambia  Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma has said.

He said government should ensure that criminals are not allowed to loot the country’s minerals, and also use the country to fundraise capital at international stock exchange market, the money which is then invested somewhere else.

He said those using Zambia to raise money at the London stock exchange which not even invested in the country should be followed by any means including involving the FBI of the United States of America.

Mr Musoma also said Government should ensure that foreigners who come to do mining business in the country partner with Zambians, because this is the only way citizens are going to benefit from their natural resources.

Mr Musoma, also warned Government against increasing Mine license fees, saying this will disadvantage many Zambians who have to compete with foreign company that are well financed.

“If government go ahead to increase the mining licenses fees, it will do more damage to the interest of indigenous Zambians who are in the mining sector, because this means only foreigners will be able to afford,” he said.

He said he is aware that  government intention to increase the number of Mining licence is not meant to benefit Zambians, but foreigners that will be issued licences.

Mr Musoma said his party does not agree with what President Hakainde Hichilema and his government are handling the mining sector expecialy that the new administration is more interested in giving licences to foreigners at the expense of locals.

“There interest is to give licence and mineral rights to criminals who are looting our natural resources from the country,” said Mr Musoma.
