ABOUT 2,000 houses in Lusaka’s Mandevu compound will soon be connected to clean and safe running water under the Millennium Challenge Account programme.

PF Raphael Chota Ward 22 councillor Joseph Tamba disclosed this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, saying this was fulfillment of some of the major promises the ruling party made to the electorate during campaigns for the August 11, 2016 elections.

“I am happy that works of laying water pipes under the Millennium Challenge Account programme are on course. This entails that 2,000 houses in Raphael Chota Ward 22 are going to be connected to clean and safe water supply and will also have communal water points. This is the promise we made during campaigns as Patriotic Front,” Mr. Tamba said.

He also said the Zambia National Service (ZNS) would resume works of modernising the football ground in Chipata compound after suspending the works for some rehabilitation works at the gutted City Market.

“They (ZNS) had removed all the equipment from the site but this week I was called and informed that Zambia National Service will be back. Come next week they will be back on site and continue with the works,” Mr. Tamba said.

He also disclosed that the Lusaka City Council has taken over the project of rehabilitating Chipata police post following termination of the contract awarded to an unnamed contractor.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tamba, who is also PF Mandevu constituency youth chairman said youths in the area have started utilizing the K75, 000 youth empowerment fund given to them by the ruling party recently.

He said their first project would be a modern carwash and they had already secured land and bought all necessary equipment and materials.

He said the youth empowerment fund beneficiaries had also engaged a water drilling company to sink a borehole at the site.
