Nothing sinister about Alpha Commodities contract – Nalumango

By ANDREW MUKOMA

WHILE some are criticising Alpha Commodities, the supplier of fertiliser to farmers in Southern Province, Vice President Mutale Nalumango has defended it.

The Vice President said there was nothing sinister in the way the contract was awarded to the company.

Ms Nalumango said in Livingstone that the way the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) was being handled in the PF government was so annoying to the people.

She said that they were selective in the way the FISP was being handled adding that there was no equal distribution of the inputs to the beneficiaries.

Ms Nalumango said that, at the time the new dawn administration was getting into power, the only available suppliers were Alpha Commodities and Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ).

She said that because of time, the new dawn government could not engage new suppliers but only to rely on the already available ones.

The Vice President said that as far as government is concerned, Alpha Commodities has performed exceptionally well.

“There is nothing sinister about Alpha Commodities. Nothing under the carpet, it is only PF who wants to ride on things that are not necessary,” she said.
