UPND lawyers eye DPP job

…Kabimba says lawyers in UPND legal team agitating DPP exit

By ADRIAN MWANZA

SOME Lawyers who defended President Hakainde Hichilema when in opposition are eyeing the position of Director of Public Prosecution and are arm twisting  the head of State to give them the job, Rainbow Party president Wynter Kabimba has said.

Mr Kabimba said in an interview he had received fresh information that about three names had been flaunted in the UPND legal team who were pressurising the Head of State.

He said a conspiracy using the MMD had been concocted and started a ploy to hound out the t DPP, Ms Lillian Siyuni.

He said the three individuals who did a lot for Mr Hichilema were expecting to be rewarded and that they were pushing for an agenda to ensure that Ms Siyuni was removed by all costs.

“I have been reliably informed that some names have been lined up by the UPND to take over from Ms Siyuni who they want to remove,” he said.

Mr Kabimba said that the UPND government had imposed people they thought they would work with properly like heads of the Police, Army and intelligence services.

He said the only stumbling block was the DPP who was appointed by the previous PF regime and they would therefore do anything to remove her.

Meanwhile, Mr Kabimba said that the UPND were playing it smart and did not want the public to know that they were pushing the agenda hence using surrogates in the name of the MMD, with whom they had a cordial relationship.

“The thing is that some lawyers who fought for President Hichilema have put him under pressure and they want jobs and they are eyeing the position of DPP, who is a stumbling block,” he said.

Efforts to get UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa and Secretary-General Batuke Imenda proved futile as they were engaged in meetings by press time.
