Farmers disown ex-leader

By CHINTU MALAMBO and CHARLES MUSONDA
MEMBERS of the Lusaka West Community farms have disowned their former chairman Osick Chilembo who has sued their current lawyer Germano Kaulung’ombe for alleged fraud in a longstanding land dispute.
The farmers have disputed Mr. Chilembo’s claim that Mr. Kaulung’ombe signed consent judgments with title deeds holders of the farms they have settled on without their authority.
In the main matter the farmers were sued together with Kafue District Council by title holders Catherine Elizabeth Cooke, Haward Cooke, Peter Andries Swanepoel, and Hogo William Jacobs but the parties have since agreed that the farmers will be allowed to regularize their settlement at the farms at a fee to be agreed on.
In an affidavit verifying facts filed in the Lusaka High Court on Thursday, the farmers’ Chairman Gaston Tembo and Secretary Rabson Lungu said contrary to Mr. Chilembo’s claims, the consent judgments were approved by the Lusaka West farms community at a meeting.
They said Lusaka West Zambia Police officers are aware of the said meeting as they were informed; and that the same meeting was captured on video.
