FINGER-POINTING over Ian Mutambo’s death should immediately stop because accidents are unforeseen, his uncle, Humphrey Chisenga has charged.
Mr Mutambo is the frontline health personnel who died in a Power Tools road traffic accident while delivering a Covid-19 sample to Ndola.
Mr Chisenga said during Mr Mutambo’s burial in Mpika yesterday that his nephew died while performing national duties and that accidents occur under normal circumstances.
This follows sentiments by the UPND and its cronies that Government should blame itself for Mr Mutambo’s death for failing to provide secure transport.
Mr Mutambo, who was born in 1996 and employed by the Ministry of Health in 2018 was yesterday put to rest at Mufubushi village in Mpika.
And in delivering a message of condolences on behalf of President Edgar Lungu to the family of Mr Mutambo, Dr. Chilufya said the bereaved family would receive the necessary support.
He said President Lungu was devastated by Ian’s demise.
Dr Chilufya assured the family and the general public that Government was investigating to establish the circumstances surrounding his unfortunate death.
Meanwhile, Seven Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Zambia in the last 24 hours from 468 tests conducted, increasing the cumulative total to 145.
Health Minister, Chitalu Chilufya said 9 patients have been discharged raising the number of recoveries to 101.
Dr Chilufya said in a statement that the country currently had 41 active cases with recorded 4 death.
“The seven new cases include contacts to known positive cases and a Zambian citizen who arrived from the United States on 3rd May 2020. The latest discharges include the first two patients who were admitted to the Masaiti Isolation facility,” he said.
