THE police and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) have been infiltrated by the Fred M’membe led cartel to embarrass the President and government, Zambia Republican Party President Wright Musoma has said.

Mr Musoma said the cartel wanted to embarrass President Lungu and the government by charging people with uninvestigated cases which result in them being acquitted of all charges.

Commenting on expelled PF Roan Member of Parliament, Chishimba Kambwili’s acquittal on three counts of traffic offences, Mr Musoma said that Mr M’membe had teamed up with the UPND to embarrass President Lungu and the PF led government.

He alleged that the cartel was paying officers within the civil service to cause confusion in government and embarrass the President.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview Mr Musoma said that President Lungu did not believe in political witch-hunts and it was obvious that the recent acquittals were well calculated to dent the reputation of the presidency, locally and internationally.

He said the Inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja should pull up his socks and rid the police service of sellouts as they pose a danger to the country’s security.

“Mr M’membe and the UPND have planted these civil servants in different departments to ensure that they drive their agenda of denting the President and government’s reputation, so the IG should immediately constitute investigations and fish out these corrupt individuals,” Mr Musoma said.

He said that it was unimaginable for competent police officers to keep on making arrests without sufficient evidence to present in court.

Mr Musoma further alleged that police and other institutions in the public service had been infiltrated by the cartel.

He said that government had been too reluctant in arresting known members of the cartel that were committing offences in the open.

“We have been complaining about this cartel for a long time now, and these people are well known to government, why can they not be prosecuted for the crimes they are committing in broad day light, these are serious offences, destabilising a country’s democracy and peace is a serious crime,” Mr Musoma charged
