There is need for Zambia to modernise its emergency rescue communication system to enhance emergencies response in the country, says fire and rescue expert Mweene Kayoba.
Mr Kayoba said in an interview that it’s unacceptable that the country is still using primitive analogue communication system in emergency response, 58 years after independence when other neighboring countries discard it a long time ago.
“It is sad that 58 years after gaining independence, Zambia’s fire and rescue teams are still using analogue communication system which is outdated and was discarded by other countries a long time ago,” he said.
He urged the government to discard the analogue system and switch to digital communication in order to achieve enhanced emergencies response in the country.
Meanwhile, Mr Kayoba bemoaned the high number of accidents involving 42 fire trucks that were purchased from Spain to determine the suitability of the trucks in Zambia before more lives of firefighters are lost.
