AILING MAKEMBO CRIES FOR HELP

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZAMBIA Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) patron Peter Makembo is calling on well-wishers to come to his aid to help him raise over K60, 000 required for his spinal surgery which should be done before May 17 this year.

Makembo, who has been diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting his right hand and his spine has been advised to go for a spinal surgery as soon as possible to avoid being confined to a wheelchair.

In an interview Makembo said he had visited a private hospital where the disease was identified but could not be treated because he cannot afford the K97, 000 cost for the treatment.

Makembo said he had gone to the University Teaching Hospital where he was promised to be attended to for free but he would have to buy Spinal Surgical Products worth K55, 000 at Simper Health Limited.

“The challenge is that I don’t have the money required for the surgery and that is why I’m calling on well-wishers to assist me. I have been told there is no any other way apart from undergoing the surgery and what is worrying is that if I delay I may be confined to a wheelchair which is tormenting to think about,” Makembo said.

“I’m in desperate need of help and that is why I’m coming out in the open because I want to be fully fit when the Olympic Games and the World Cup qualifiers commences,” he said.

Makembo who has always found a way to provide support to teams under Covid-19 restrictions said if left unattended to, his condition may hinder him from doing what he loves which is to support the Chipolopolo and various sports teams as the country’s number one cheer leader.

He said he is looking forward to cheering the Olympics-bound Copper Queens and the Chipolopolo as they begin their World Cup qualifiers set to kick off in June this year.
