THE 2019/2020 Wildcat Premier Futsal League (PFL) will not be completed as anticipated as it has been rendered null and void, Wildcat PFL chairman Tarak Mehta has said.
Speaking after a meeting with club representatives at the weekend, Mehta said the PFL has been rendered null and void, owing to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The decision to declare the league null and void denies the defending champions Automotive Futsal Academy who were dominating the 15-team league table with 67 points after 25 rounds of matches played, a chance to clinch their third consecutive title.
“We had a meeting with clubs and decided to declare the league null and void,” Mehta said.
“As an executive we haven’t been unfair to any team because the decision to declare the league null and void was a collective agreement made by the PFL executive and the clubs’ representatives.”
Meanwhile, the 2020/2021 PFL will have 10 teams while five teams which include CSS Power Tools FC, Tamanga Juldan, Lilanda Bullets, Chiparamba FC and BS Stars FC will drop into the lower league.
Mehta said the decision to reduce the number of teams will promote competition in both the PFL and the lower league which will consist of eight teams.
“The top 10 teams on the log will play Premier league in the 2020/21 season and bottom teams will be relegated to Division One.
“This will promote competition among teams because clubs in Division One will want to fight hard to win promotion to the PFL while teams in the PFL will compete to avoid relegation,” he said.
