Bill 10 published in Govt Gazette to stop misinformation

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
THE Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 has been published through a government gazette number 12 of June 12, 2020, aimed at stopping peddling of misinformation by those opposed to the Bill.
Addressing the media in Lusaka yesterday, when he presented the gazetted version of the Bill 10, Justice Minister, Given Lubinda also urged the public to read the Bill to give themselves comfort and assurance.
He reaffirmed Government’s commitment of ensuring trust and consensus building in the legislative process.
Mr. Lubinda said Bill 10 has been the most inclusive and comprehensive Constitutional refinement process in the country’s political history adding that therefore calls by some sections of society to have the bill withdrawn were unwarranted.
Mr Lubinda said Government was shocked at the renewed scepticism on Bill 10 despite having given confidence to everyone
that the Parliamentary Select Committee recommendations would be incorporated in the new constitution.
He urged all members of Parliament from both opposition and the ruling party not to deny their electorates and Zambians in general an opportunity to have a constitution that is going to last the test of time.
Mr. Lubinda wondered whether those calling for the withdrawal of Bill 10 are concerned about issues which were raised when they pushed for the refinement of the Constitution.
