Catholic nuns assaulted in botched burglary

TWO Catholic nuns of St Barbara Parish in Itezhi- tezhi have been brutally assaulted by an unidentified man.

Police in the district have launched a manhunt for the criminal behind the brutal attack.


Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo said they received a report of aggravated assault with intent to steal from the victims identified as Sister Akuffor Assumptor aged 48 and Sr. Matildah Mulenga, aged 57 years.

Ms Katongo said the victims were attacked at their convent by a masked man who wanted to steal from them.

She said Sr Mulenga sustained a deep cut on the forehead and injuries on the eye while Sr Akuffor sustained a deep cut on the head after being hit with an iron bar by the assailant.

“This happened when the victims found the criminal attempting to break into Sr Mulenga’s apartment,” Ms Katongo said in a statement.
Ms Katongo said the incident occurred on August 24, 2020 at around 21:00 hours at Kataba Parish convent house.

She said the victims were taken to Itezhi-tezhi District Hospital for treatment.
