Pray for peace ahead of 2021 – Lungu

By PRISCA LUMINGU-BANDA

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called on the church to pray for peace without ceasing as the country approaches the 2021 general elections.

President Lungu said it was not enough just to pray on October 18, the day of national prayers or every Saturday or Sunday, but that people needed to pray every day without ceasing.

President Lungu said this when Seventh Day Adventist Church Southern Zambia Union president Harrington Akambwa paid a courtesy call on him at State House yesterday ahead of the 2020 Lusaka Conference meeting.

Mr Lungu said as the country approached the elections next year, the challenges would be many, including the temptations to create havoc when things are not going on well.

“Pray for peace in our country, it is not enough to just pray in October on the 18th, it is not enough just to pray on Sundays or Saturday, let us pray every day without ceasing,” President Lungu said.

Mr Lungu also said the government was working very hard to keep the country safe from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This work includes the Ministry of Health enhancing disinfecting management and control activities,” he said.

He said government was working hard to create an enabling environment for every Zambian to keep their connection with God.

President Lungu said the SDA was known for many positive contributions to the country.

Dr Akambwa said the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zambia had worked very well with the government

Dr. Akambwa said the church enjoys the cordial relationship that it had with President Lungu and the government.
