Two coronavirus survivors re-infected

TWO people who had recently recovered from Covid-19 have been re-infected, Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has disclosed.
This is barely 24 hours after Dr Chilufya cautioned the Covid-19 survivors against laxity in adhering to preventive guidelines against the pandemic or risk being re-infected.
The minister on Friday warned that there was evidence of re-infection among people who have recovered from Covid-19 because they were not immune to the pandemic.
Speaking during the routine update on Covid-19 yesterday, Dr Chilufya announced that the country had for the first time recorded 2 cases of re-infection of the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic.
He said the continued cumulative figures of confirmed Covid-19 was due to abrogation of preventive measures by the public.
The minister further announced that 70 new cases of covid-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, while 96 were discharged from the health facilities.
Dr Chilufya said 45 patients were still admitted in various isolation centers with 33 admitted at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital of which 14 are on oxygen, while 12 patients were admitted outside Lusaka with 7 on oxygen.
Dr Chilufya said the Zambia had witnessed the geographic spread of the pandemic to Zambezi and Katete district bringing the numbers of districts affected to 77.
He urged the public to strictly adhere to health regulations to avoid contracting or spreading the pandemic.
