RESIGN, MWILA TELLS HICHILEMA

By SIMON MUNTEMBA
THE UPND is shrinking and its life president Hakainde Hichilema has lost his relevance to Zambian politics, the Patriotic Front (PF) has said.

PF Secretary-General, Davis Mwila, said UPND would continue losing parts of its strongholds while wasting time on propaganda and insults because Zambians were fatigued with Mr Hichilema.
Mr Mwila said the landslide victory in Mwansabombwe and Lukashya Parliamentary by-elections, as well as winning three local government by elections in North-Western Province showed that the UPND had shrunk drastically. He said this yesterday at a press briefing in Lusaka following the announcement of results of Thursday’s parliamentary and local government by-elections.
Mr Mwila who described Mr Hichilema as a gon’ga (counterfeit) product said UPND would continue diminishing due to its “expired” leader.
Mr Mwila insisted that UPND was shrinking and challenged Mr Hichilema to step down because he had lost ‘meaningfulness’ to Zambia’s democracy.
“Since 2006 when he controversially usurped leadership through a tribally inspired campaign, UPND have made an input of Hichilema into five consecutive presidential elections and he has yielded zero returns over a 15 year period,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwila said the ‘feeble murmuring’ of the opposition in the North-Western Province had been drowned by the ruling party’s development efforts.
He said even in the other wards the margins had shrunk drastically in PF’s favour.
“In the interest of meaningful democracy in Zambia, the main opposition urgently needs to replace their sour “gong’a” product with a real contender carrying integrity. Not a pretender,” Mr Mwila said.
