Stop abusing police, says Tayali

By SIMON MUNTEMBA
THE growing trend of civilians and politicians abusing police officers will lead to chaos in 2021, Economic and Equity Party (EEP) has said.

EEP president, Chilufya Tayali, said police and other security wings deserved respect and must not be abused under the guise of democracy and politics.
He was reacting to an incident in which UPND cadres recently abducted officers in Muchinga province and later dumped them after 20 kilometres.
Mr Tayali also expressed concern at the hostile behaviour of UPND president Hakainde Hichilema after police blocked him from entering court premises where convicted Chishimba Kambwili’s was appearing.
In his Facebook posting, Mr Tayali wondered if the police would manage to maintain law and order during the 2021 general elections “at the rate things were moving.”
He urged the Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja, to ensure police officers were respected.
“Ba Kanganja what’s going on, your police are not being respected, will you manage 2021 general elections at this rate?
“I love my country and I want law and order and this can only come if the security wings are respected, especially by political leaders,” Mr Kayali said.
Mr Tayali stated that he had watched the video of how Mr Hichilema’s security personnel were misbehaving in Kasama District when he went to give solidarity to the his party officials who were appearing before the courts of law.
He said as if that was not enough, the UPND cadres in the company of Mr Hichilema assaulted two police officers and bundled them in a vehicle in Muchinga province before dropping them in the middle of nowhere.
