KAMFINSA MP CHALLENGES GOVT TO RECAPITALISE MOPANI

By VITA BANDA

PATRIOTIC Front Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe has challenged Government to recapitalise Mopani Copper Mines.

Mr Kang’ombe said there was little production at the mine because of less financial support.

He said that the mining firm was capable of making profits and contribute positively to the country’s economy but it was failing to do so because production has slowed down.

Mr Kang’ombe said the government should find ways of sourcing for funds which should be channeled to the operations of the mine for it to become fully operational.

He said Mopani as it stands is at 100 percent Zambian-owned mine, and it is through government support which can revamp it.

Meanwhile, Mr Kang’ombe said Government needed to inform the nation on whether it will engage a different investor to run Konkola Copper Mines or it would give it back to Vedanta Resources.

He said the present situation was confusing because Zambians were not well informed about the decision of the government.
