NORTH-WEST GETS K11M FOR VULNERABLE

GOVERNMENT has disbursed about K11. 8 million towards the Social Cash transfer programme in North-Western Province this year.

Provinccal Minister, Nathaniel Mubukwanu, said that 47,177 households have benefitted from the programme out of the 55,209 targeted households.

He said 3,300 vulnerable but viable families have benefitted from the Food Security Pack under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services this year alone.

Under women empowerment, Mr Mubukwanu said 2,084 women were empowered with productive grants.

He said of the total number, 538 women were from Zambezi, 619 from Manyinga, 651 and 316 from Mwinilunga and Ikelenge districts respectively.

On health infrastructure, Mr Mubukwanu said that 51 out of the 74 health posts allocated to the province have been completed and operationalized.

He said four district hospitals were initiated for construction in Chavuma, Kalumbila, Mwinilunga and Ikelenge districts.

He said Chavuma and Kalumbila district hospitals have been completed while the Ikelenge and Mwinilunga hospitals are at phase one.

In terms of staff recruitment, he said a total of 360 new staff were targeted to be recruited by the end of the year but that only a total of 154 were recruited.

“These include 11 medical Doctors, 7 general clinical officers, 15 environmental health technicians, 8 laboratory personnel, 1 paramedic and 112 nurses,” Mr Mubukwanu said.
