UPND sets 2021 election preps in motion

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA
THE United Party for National Development (UPND) on the Copperbelt has begun to prepare candidates for 2021.

UPND has also declared its leader, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, ready for the 2021 general elections and that victory certain.
“HH is ready for the 2021 general elections because he has already marketed himself as an individual,” UPND Copperbelt provincial chairman Elisha Matambo said.
Mr Matambo was speaking during an introductory meeting with the councillor, mayoral/council chairperson and parliamen-tary prospecting candidates at the UPND provincial secretariat.
The Copperbelt Provincial Management Committee called for an introductory meeting for the aspiring candidates to keep in check as to whether the party would have candidates in all the wards, constituencies and districts.
Mr Matambo said Mr Hichilema had already marketed himself more than the party such that he could win an election even if he was to contest as an independent today.
Meanwhile, Mr Matambo advised the aspirants that it was not enough for the party to only have candidates without branches.
He challenged the aspirants to go and work with the local structures for the party to win big in 2021.
Mr Matambo who expressed happiness at the large turnout of the aspiring candidates, also advised that the party regulations did not allow any aspirant to start campaigning in areas where they had sitting councillors, MPs and council chairper-sons/Mayor’s.
He said the party regulations did not allow anyone to deliberately antagonize the sitting rep-resentatives.
