Kenya: Three siblings begin walk to Nairobi from Kinangop to raise cash for mum’s back surgery

Three siblings have embarked on an arduous journey from Ndunyu Njeru in Kinangop hoping to make it to Nairobi, and while at it, raise money for their mum’s spinal surgery.
The two pre-teen boys and their elder sister began the journey on Sunday, with nothing but a photo of their feeble mum who has been in hospital for the last two months.
The mother of 7, Mary Muthoni was sheltering herself from the rain at at a quarry when rocks dropped on her, leaving her with life-altering injuries.
She has been at the Kenyatta National Hospital since and needs at least Ksh. 500,000 for a titanium plate on her back.
“I’m appealing to any well-wisher, I have been at the Kenyatta National Hospital for the last two months and I cannot move, doctors say I need a spinal fusion surgery which I cannot afford,” Ms. Muthoni told Inooro TV.
The family said the walk to Nairobi was arrived at after they failed to raise the amount needed for the spinal fusion surgery as friends and family who rushed to their rescue only managed to raise a paltry Ksh. 60,000.
Since none of them have been able to visit their mother in hospital since the accident-on account of the harsh economic times- the three have decided to walk and raise money while at it.
