LIGHTNING KILLS MUFUMBWE WOMAN

A 52-YEAR-OLD woman in Mufumbwe has died after being struck by lightning inside her house.

Zambia Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo has identified the victim as Ms Monica Muswenyesa of Likulau Village, Chief Chizela.
Ms Katongo told the Daily Nation that Ms Muswenyesa was struck on Monday around 23:00 hours.
She said the body of the victim was deposited in Mufumbwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
In a related development, a five-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning in Kazungula in Chief Sekute’s area.
Ms Katongo identified the victim as Mizezo Siamukoma, while her father Robert Siamakoma aged 56 and her mother identi-fied as Emmelda Mulinda aged 37 survived with injuries.
Meanwhile, Ms Katongo said two people sustained serious injuries while six others had minor injuries after a road traffic acci-dent which occurred on Tuesday at Orex Filling Station in Mazabuka along the Great North Road.
She said a Foton truck registration number BAL 7804 and trailer ALG 5348T careered off the road as it was moving from north to south direction. She said the accident happened when the motor vehicle which was descending a slop near radio Mazabuka developed defective breaks.
It careered off the road to the left and hit into a fuel pump.
“This sparked some fire which was quickly extinguished by two police officers using fire extinguishers before fire fighters ar-rived to complete the process,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the injured were taken to Mazabuka General Hospital where some were treated as outpatients.
