Maintain peace – Mumbi Phiri

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
ZAMBIANS are one regardless of their political affiliation, hence the need to maintain peace ahead of the 2021 general elections, PF deputy Secretary-General Mumbi Phiri has said.

Ms Phiri said Zambians should live in harmony and that Government was not interested in tribal and political violence.
She was speaking when headmen from Dundumwezi in Kalomo visited the PF’s Secretariat in Lusaka to affirm their support for President Edgar Lungu and the ruling party. Ms Phiri said Dundumwezi Member of Parliament, Edgar Sing’ombe, has over stayed and needed into be replaced by a PF MP in the next elections. She said it was sad that when bill 10 failed, Mr Sing’ombe and other UPND MPs went to Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s house to cerebrate.
She said Mr Sing’ombe was not representing the interest of the people in the area but only interested in his own pocket. Ms Phiri said women and youths should take interest in politics and aspire to elective office as opposed to only be used as springboard by some politicians to ascent to power.
She advised youths to refuse to be used as tools for political violence but instead take up their rightful positions in the governance of the country.
Ms Phiri emphasised that Zambia was a united country under the umbrella of one Zambia, one nation and that it was the reason why people were intermarrying.
She revealed that her own daughters were married to Tonga men including one married to a cousin of UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.
