THE continued attacks on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) by the opposition political parties is a clear sign that they are already defeated way ahead of the 2021 general elections, Patriotic Front (PF) in Lusaka has said.

PF Lusaka Province Secretary Kennedy Kamba said “Instead of encouraging their members, the church and civil society organisations to combine efforts in calling on people to register as voters in large numbers, they have resorted to endless attacks on ECZ.
He was reacting to sentiments by UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma who urged the Commission to stop registering inmates, if not it will fuel confusion in the country.
Mr Kakoma said the Commission cannot go ahead to register inmates without consulting all political parties.
And National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili said ECZ officials should resign if they fail to reach the targeted nine million voters. But Mr Kamba said the ruling party knew these defeatist tactics which the opposition were trying to play.
“We take note of the comments made by Mr Kambwili and UPND spokesperson Mr Kakoma who have been separately quoted in the Mast and Daily Nation newspapers of today (yesterday) December 6, 2020 respectively, both tearing the ECZ apart when this institution is working tirelessly, day and night, to register as many Zambians as possible ahead of next year’s general elections.
