Pedestrian killed by hit and run in Mufumbwe

A 30-year-old man of Chipoya village in Kabompo district has died after being hit by a vehicle in Mufumbwe district.

North Western deputy commissioner of police Chola Katanga said the accident occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday around 05:00 hours in the Kashima East area along the Mutanda-Chavuma road.

Mr Katanga said Mr Benson Kanshimba was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road.

“We recorded a hit and run accident in Mufumbwe district and the driver is believed to have been driving from East to West,’’ he said.

He explained that due to the impact of the accident the victim died on the spot.

“The victim sustained multiple cuts on the head and the body has since been deposited in Mufumbwe District Hospital awaiting post-mortem,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man of Kyabankanka area in Kalumbila district is nursing injuries after being hit by an over-speeding vehicle.

Mr Katanga said the incident occurred on Thursday around 18:00 hours along the Mutanda road at Kyabankanka and identified the victim as Bisa Mulayo.

He explained that Mr Mulayo was hit by David Walusa, who was driving a Toyota Raum, as he stood on the side of the road.

“And due to the impact the victim sustained suspected fractured left knee and swollen head,’’ he added.
