Vandalism irks Zesco

By MUKWIMA CHILALA
POWER utility firm Zesco has expressed concern that the continued vandalism of its infrastructure may prolong the load shedding hours
It says the company has also continued to lose huge sums of money due to the continued damage on its property.

Zesco Senior Corporate Affairs Manager John Kunda says some of the power outages experienced are as a result of unscrupulous people who have continued to vandalise some of its infrastructure such as transformer oils and cutting down of its poles.
Dr Kunda said that the company had in the last quarter of the year lost $4 million due to vandalism and added that people had a role to play in protecting public infrastructure.
He noted that there is need to adopt behaviours that are friendly to public property unlike the trend that has seen people vandalise infrastructure such as transformer oil.
And Dr Kunda said that the investment that the institution had put in place will gradually see a significant reduction of load shedding by the beginning of the new year.
