Police retrieve stolen car in Lusaka

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

POLICE in Lusaka have recovered a suspected stolen motor vehicle, a grey Toyota Corolla registration number BCA 5276 Grey which was stolen in Ndola.

According to police spokesperson Esther Katongo, the vehicle was stolen from a 30-year-old driver identified as Amos Chanda by unidentified criminals after they allegedly poisoned him before dumping him at a grave yard in Ndola.

Ms Katongo said the vehicle was found parked at a car park in Lusaka’s Chilenje Township,  by unknown persons on the pretext that the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault.

“The vehicle which was found without tyres and registration number was retrieved and is parked at Chilenje Police Station,” Ms Katongo said.

She dispelled information that was circulated on social media under the headline “Chilenje cops accused of attempting to steal stolen car.”

“This is a matter which is still under investigations and at no point did the police officers from Chilenje Police mentioned in the trending insinuation convert the motor vehicle for self-benefit,” she said.

Ms Katongo emphasised that the motor vehicle was parked at Chilenje Police Station and would soon be handed over to police officers in Ndola from where it was stolen.
