KANCHIBIYA MP WELCOMES INCREASED CDF FUNDING

By NATION REPORTER

KANCHIBIYA Constituency Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda is optimistic his constituency will come out strong should most of the pronouncements in the 2022 Budget be implemented.

Adding his voice to review the K173 Billion worth, National Budget presented by Minister of Finance, Situmbeko Musokotwane last week, Mr Chanda, who is under the Patriotic Front (PF), said he is particularly happy with the increased CDF allocation to each constituency be-cause this will spell out a lot of development for rural constituencies like his area.

“Increasing CDF from K1.6 million to K25.7 million is a good move to help transform constituencies. Of course, the expanded scope to in-clude construction of classrooms, bridges, bursaries, among others will mean that CDF must be released in January of every year,” he said.

He suggested that there will be need to look at the CDF Act and consider amending the aspect of timely disbursement.

“It has to be January every calendar year and not the current situation where release of funds is dependent on availability of resources. With timely disbursement of these funds, Kanchibiya will come out strong as this is in line with most of our laid down plans to develop the constit-uency. This means growing our local economy through creation of local industries in the four chiefdoms in Kanchibiya,” he said.

And Mr Chanda said the pronouncements and allocations to key sectors like education, health and agriculture will equally help develop Kanchibiya which basically has a mixed economy.

“We are hopeful that we will be among the first to be considered for the pronouncements made in health, education and agriculture. I personal-ly want to see more schools built, more health centers and making agriculture easily manageable,” Mr Chanda said.
