IAM a victim of political conspiracy by my competitors who are sponsoring some youths in Kasama that supplied facemasks to the DMM to mudsling me, says Kasama Central Member of Parliament, Kelvin Sampa.

Mr Sampa who refuted allegations that pocketed over K200, 000 funds meant to pay youths in Kasama who supplied facemasks to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) said the whole thing was politics of mudslinging.

Mr Sampa who challenged the youth to report him to police said they were being used by some named politicians inimical to him.

“Those are just politics of mudslinging. Some known politicians are using one of the youths who supplied masks to fight me

“I don’t owe anyone any money. Abo abaiche balebabomfya to fight me. It’s all about politics of mudslinging. And if anything, why are they not reporting me to the police? In fact, they were supposed to get K50, 000 but I paid them K100, 000,” Mr Sampa said.

He was reacting to allegations that he pocketed over K200, 000 funds meant to pay youths in Kasama who supplied facemasks to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

It is reported that in June last year, Mr Sampa engaged the youth in his constituency to supply 50, 000 facemasks to the DMMU valued at K10 each, but youths managed to supply 32, 998 facemasks to the DMMU Kasama office valued at K32, 988.

However, it is alleged that after DMMU released all the K329, 910 Mr Sampa only paid the youths K90, 000.

The Legal Aid Board in Kasama, who are the lawyers for the youth, have made the demand after discovering that DMMU paid Mr. Sampa in full for the facemasks youths supplied.

According to a letter of demand by the Legal Aid Board signed by a lawyer, Mr Keith Katazo dated January 26, 2021, the youth are demanding that Mr Sampa pays the balance of K239, 910 by February 1 or face immediate legal proceedings.

The action has been taken by Mr. Japhet Chongo, Mr. Oscar Kelekesha, Mr. David Chanda and Mr. Messiah Mulenga on behalf of other youths involved in the transaction.

But when contacted for a comment, Mr Sampa said contrary to the allegations, he paid the youths according to what they supplied and what was agreed upon.
