‘Malicious’ church mother bodies roasted

By SILUMESI MALUMO

MALICIOUS propaganda by the three main church bodies should be quickly curtailed before it plunges the country into chaos, stakeholders have said.

The opposition leaders have observed that the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) had a hidden and “evil” agenda.

New Congress Party president, Peter Chanda, said discrediting the Cyber Security Bill which was intended to promote morality in the country was absurd.

Pastor Chanda said a number of citizens were affected by cyber bullying criminals, hence the need to enact a law that would stop evil acts in the country.

He said the revelation that the three Church mother bodies were planning to issue a statement condemning the enactment of the bill clearly showed that they do not mean well for the country.

Pastor Chanda said in an interview yesterday that there was need for the country to have laws that would protect the people.

He said it was sad that the three church mother bodies could join citizens that do not mean well for the country.

“A lot of people are affected with cyber bullying and this shouldn’t be tolerated in this Christian nation. So this legislation which President Edgar Lungu want to make into law is good for the country so that many are protected.

“So those opposing it are enemies of progress and should be ignored by Zambians,” he said.

The Bishops Council of Zambia has revealed that the three church mother bodies had resolved to issue a statement to condemn the enactment of the Bill into law.

BCZ Secretary General Abel Kaela said the church needed to play a role of unifying the country ahead of the August 12, 2021 elections instead of what others were planning.

And Evangelical Youth Alliance director Rev Moses Lungu said the Church should support President Edgar Lungu because he wants to return the wealth of the people that were stolen.

Rev Lungu said that it is only President Edgar Lungu that means well for the people of Zambia.

He said that people should be careful with some politicians who are capitalists and want to foreign investors to manage the mines adding that the same investors will not keep the money in the country but invest in their own countries.

Rev Lungu also said that some individuals who are bringing the issue of the constitution and the Presidents Eligibility are just trying to divert attention from real issues.
