DISSOLVE INEPT ZAMRA, GOVT TOLD

By PETER SICHALI

GOVERNMENT should immediately dissolve the Zambia Medical Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) for failing to protect the lives of Citizens, former Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia president Jerome Kanyika has demanded.

Mr Kanyika said ZAMRA has failed to provide leadership to management thereby endangering lives of citizens.

Mr Kanyika said negligence by ZAMRA resulted in some people to consume medication without proper certification. He said it was important for the ministry to clean up ZAMRA so as to safeguard lives of citizens.

“The ZAMRA board of directors should be dissolved immediately for endangering lives of citizens,” Mr Kanyika said.

He said dissolving the board will restore the lost confidence in the institution following its failure to certify properly medical supplies.

“People have lost confidence in the ZAMRA board and management therefore it is important to overhaul the institution and put in people that will have interest of Zambians at heart,” Mr Kanyika said.

He said drugs and medical supplies are important and a sensitive commodity that should be properly certified to avoid putting lives of people at risk.

Mr Kanyika said the top leadership at ZAMRA should be dismissed for negligence and putting lives of citizens at risk.

“I think the board is not doing its job of protecting the public through ZAMRA,” he said.
