GOVERNANCE EXPERT NODS CREATION OF FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC FAST TRACK COURT

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

THE creation of the Financial and Economic fast track court is a good move as it will expedite the disposal of cases that are of economic nature, a governance expert in Solwezi John Kalusa has said.

Recently at the ceremonial opening of the High Court Criminal sessions for 2022, Chief Justice Mumba Malila announced that Economic and Financial Crimes court at the level of the subordinate court will soon be operational.

The Chief Justice said the court is designed to offer specialised fast track court services and ensure that all due process requirements are  observed,  illicitly  obtained wealth is speedily recovered and restored to the public.

And Mr Kalusa said the move is good as long as it operates without any political interference.

He said the move will deter would be offenders from engaging in financial illicit activities.

“The move is very much welcome as long as it will operate according to its mandate and without political interference, “ said Mr Kalusa.

He has however suggested that the judges that will be adjudicating such cases must undergo specialised training in financial and economic issues.

“Specialised training is a must for the judges so that they are competent enough with the issues they are dealing with,” he said.
