Negative energy

Negative people are angry people. They are full of envy and jealousy and will see nothing good not even when it stares them in the face.

They will speak down any achievement and deprecate any effort exerted in creating success. They do not see success, they see failure around them, and they see nothing positive they instead see corruption, decay and failure.

This is their nature. This is the nature of the cartel that is currently pulling the strings in the background in the frantic effort of dampening the enthusiasm, determination and zeal of the Zambian people to create for themselves a prosperous,
peaceful and united nation.

That is why the antagonistic and confrontational character of the speech, presented as state of the nation address by the three mother church bodies betrayed its very source.

It had nothing to do with spiritual counsel. I t was an appeal to the emotions intended to ruble rouse, disparage and cast serious aspersions on the leadership.

Predictably the language was a dead giveaway to the malevolent forces lurking within the lines. The very inclusion of the description of breed of dogs- German Shepard, used by security police to “capture” one Hichilema Hakainde at his house, places the context of the speech.

The signature of the cartel was all over the speech, characteristically bereft of civility, sensitivity and let alone balanced logical presentation.

Little wonder Church leaders from within the Catholic and protestant churches were quick to disavow and distance themselves from the “state of the nation” address.

The very effort to legitimize the poison pen as an authoritative message from three mother church bodies rang empty as  the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia denied any hand in crafting the message and more significantly and perhaps in a rare display of division two catholic Bishops distanced the church from the address.

An impression is thus being created that the church is divided.

This is far from the reality. We agree that at any one time the church umbrella bodies agree to undertake a joint and collaborative activity or discussion of the state of the nation, they deliberate and agree on a document.

This was not the case this time. It was neither the collaborative work of mother church bodies, nor indeed the product of consultation of the Catholic Bishops of Zambia. Catholic Pastoral letters are always the result of collaborative endeavor and never the work of one individual.

This “State of the Nation” was a vengeful treatise without any redeeming spiritual value. It spoke to hopelessness, despair and deep hurt.

Zambians must begin to accept the existence of a clique of nationals who see nothing good in the country unless they are in control. These are people with a negative outlook and a permanent mindset that is negative.

They are more comfortable within the cesspit of human depravity than celebrating the joy of life and the positive gains we make as a nation.

They posit themselves as paragons of virtue and yet we now know that they embody the very environment they thrive in.

It is important we identify this negative energy and give it the widest possible distance to guard our gains and protect the nascent economic and political stride the nation is making towards creating a viable, prosperous and democratic nation that we have set ourselves to achieve.

It is no mean achievement that even the Bretton Woods organizations appreciate the strides we have made crafting for ourselves a path towards economic and social consolidation.

Small minds should not be allowed to
derail us.
