Thabo “Office of the Filer” Kawana dares ACC

THABO Kawana has dared the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to immediately institute corruption investigations against himself, to ascertain the cleanliness of the money he used to buy his wife a brand new top of the range motor vehicle as a Christmas gift.

Mr Kawana, the Ministry of Information and Media director and spokesperson says he is ready to be reported to the ACC and is looking forward to be summoned by the law enforcement agents so that he could prove that he was not a fraudulent man.

Mr Kawana has come under fire after he bought a top of the range SUV motor vehicle from the showroom and gifted it to his wife and flaunted it on social media.

Speaking for the first time after flaunting his financial might which has angered the governing UPND, Mr Kawana said those with doubts about his financial abilities were free to report him to the law enforcement agencies.

He said if he had misconducted himself by gifting his wife a new car, the ACC and DEC should be free to summon him and commence investigations over his conduct.

Mr  Kawana was reacting to the move by Governance activist Charles Kakula who yesterday reported him to the ACC after he purchased a luxurious vehicle straight from the show room barely a year of being appointed.

“I have nothing to hide because I got a loan from a micro finance institution in Roma and the ACC and even you journalists can go there to verify if indeed you want to know the truth,” Mr Kawana said.

Mr Kakula has challenged other governance entities to report Mr Kawana to institutions like the DEC because there was a likelihood that the Ministry of Information senior civil servant could have committed a crime.

“I am a straight person and it is just a matter of time before I would be vindicated as the truth would be established. The ACC should ascertain where I got the money to acquire the vehicle which costs over US$50, 000. I want to account for the vehicle that I bought for my wife,” Mr Kawana.

But Mr Kakula said Zambians needed to know the truth about how Mr Kawana, who had been in government as a civil servant could so easily acquire an expensive motor vehicle using his payslip. He said the country was aware that Mr Kawana was only a driver in the MMD before he was appointed into the UPND government and he had worked in the civil service in no more than one year and that his salary scale could not enable him to acquire such a luxurious vehicle
